TEMPO: ‘Turkish and Amazonian Dreams’: New at the Tang

“Turkish and Amazonian Dreams,” an exhibition of digital photography printed on encaustic, goatskin and gold by Dona Geib will open at the Tang Gallery.

Geib will bring her work to the Tang, 32 Main St., in Bisbee on Oct. 13. Her unique, unusual work uses images taken from the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque in Turkey, a total solar eclipse, and her  journey up the Amazon River.

Geib graduated summa cum laude from the University of California, Northridge and also received her master of fine arts from CSUN specializing in advanced experimental techniques in printmaking, photography, the book arts and moveable type.

Geib has exhibited at the Kellogg Art Gallery, California Polytechnic University, Pomona, at the Brand Library Art Gallery, the Finegood Art Gallery, the Wichita Falls Museum, the Barnsdall Municipal Gallery in Los Angeles, the Palos Verdes Art Center, the Cyberspace Gallery, the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena, and in 1989 was invited to exhibit at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum in Taiwan. She also has exhibited in London and South Korea.




She has received purchase awards from the Taipei Museum of Art, the Los Angeles County Museum and the Ink and Clay exhibition at Cal State Poly; Pomona, Calif., among others.

She has taught animation and computer graphics at California State University, Northridge, Cal Poly University, Pomona, Loyola Marymount University, Mt. San Antonio College, and the Museum of Science and Industry in Los Angeles.

She is a member of SIGGRAPH, the National Computer Graphics Association, and a past president of the Los Angeles Printmaking Society.

Geib will be at the Tang Gallery for a reception in her honor on Oct. 13 from 3 to 5 p.m. For information, call 432-5824.

Also coming to the reception is popular Brazilian artist Carmem Gusmao, who will be bringing her new paintings and Brazilian semi-precious stone jewelry.

    " Turkish Dreams, 'ey? How about another photo retrospective on the genocidal mass murder of Armenians and Greeks by the Turks during WWI? The Turks still refuse to admit it even happened. That's like denying the WWII Holocaust ever happened. You should be boycotting Turkey, not showcasing it. "
