SIERRA VISTA — A man missing since Wednesday was found dead in lower Carr Canyon on Friday evening, according to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.

Chris Busch, 49, was found in the back of the van he had been last seen in, said Carol Capas, spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office. Authorities still were investigating Busch’s death on Friday night.

The van was in lower Carr Canyon, and a person who frequently walked in the area reported it after having seen it in the same place for a couple of days, Capas said.

Busch was reported missing on Wednesday evening after he didn’t show up for the work appointment he had that morning, and he didn’t make an appointment in the afternoon.

Authorities and family members had been searching for Busch since he went missing — something his sister says is “very out of character.”

“For him to leave his kids ... is not my brother at all,” said Cathy Sams, a Tucsonan who on Friday afternoon was passing out fliers with information about her brother.

Busch has a 13-year-old daughter and 16-year-old son.

Before Busch was found dead on Friday, Sierra Vista police Detective Mertie Stompro said investigators had no reason to suspect foul play, or to believe Busch had any enemies.

Sams said many agencies, including the U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Customs, U.S. Army and local law enforcement agencies were helpful and had been on the lookout for her brother.

According to the family, Busch was last seen wearing a white work shirt with thin black stripes and blue jeans.

Bush was driving a white 2006 Chevy Express van with “Restaurant equipment service and sales” on the side and ladder racks on top when he was last seen dropping off his son for a work commitment at 8:20 a.m. on Wednesday. He was then expected to be en route to Lone Mountain Ranch via Montezuma Pass in the southern portion of the Huachuca Mountains, or possibly Highway 82 or 83 northeast of Sierra Vista, or U.S. Forest Service Road 169.

Instead, he was found in Carr Canyon.

The search for Busch wasn’t the only one that occurred this week.

On Thursday, the Cochise County Search and Rescue Team and Sheriff’s Assist Team and an Arizona Department of Public Safety Ranger helicopter were dispatched after a 59-year-old man reportedly went missing in the area of Interstate 10 and Highway 90 in Benson near Cochise College.

The man’s wife reported at 7:30 p.m. that he had gone for a walk about 2:30 p.m. and was supposed to have been back by 4 p.m., Cochise County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Carol Capas said. She told authorities that she was concerned about his welfare because of certain medical conditions.

Searchers found him nearby at about 10:30 p.m., and the man was OK, Capas said.

" I've been friends with Chris almost 8 years. He was one of our vendors here at Benson Hospital. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. I will miss his intellegence, kindness and humor. I'm happy he was my friend. I met his Son, Shaun, several times in the past. Chris used to bring him to the hospital when doing work for us. I haven't met other family members, but my condolences go out to all his children, grandchildren, extended family, and Sister Cathy. Owen Burt "

" The USBP used to park vehicles in lower Carr Canyon a few hours each day to wait for illegals. I can't believe it took anyone this long to find the man. His vehicle was unique enough. People cross that area all the time and surely saw the vehicle, yet no one got suspicious? "

" I am very sorry for the Busch family loss. I too was hoping for a better outcome. And in regards to "concerned's" comment,I missed the part of the article that said illeagals were the cause. It is people like you that spread hate and terror in the community. Why would you even write what you did? I feel that your comment was very disrespectful. Once again though my heart goes out to the Busch family, "

" This area is not safe anymore. My husband likes to go fishing with our 5yr old son and I am afraid they might not come back because of all the illegals and drugs up in the mountains. About 6yrs ago a man in the mountains tried to attack us. My condolences got to the family of Chris Busch!! "
