Education department needs to explain policy

Published/Last Modified on Friday, Sep 14, 2007 - 05:26:34 am MST

To the Editor:

Where do we complain about the Arizona Department of Education’s order?

Any logical premise for the Arizona Department of Education’s order to the Fort Huachuca Accommodation District was missing from Sunday’s article. Whatever rule the ADE is standing on was not linked to any good policy. Either an intelligent reason for the ADE’s action exists, or we need to express our outrage to the ADE and our Arizona state senators and representatives.

If my high school courses in government and history and if my perception of the quagmire in the U.S. Congress mean anything, complaining to our U.S. congresswoman will go nowhere. If the ADE mandate stands, the children of the soldiers based at Fort Huachuca will suffer for an Arizona-made Catch-22.

Moreover, Arizona will provide a reason for closing or shrinking Fort Huachuca when the Army or the Department of Defense are making future decisions.
