Tombstone
Cochise County Library District’s Citizen Liaison Council will meet on Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon at Tombstone City Library, Fourth and Toughnut streets. The public is invited to attend. The Citizen Liaison Council meets every other month in one of the public libraries in the county, and members share news about their local libraries. The group is made up of citizens appointed by each city council, and it acts as an advisory board to the Library District Director and to the Cochise County Board of Supervisors, which operates the countywide online library system and other public library support services. The Lions Club will have an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner Saturday at the Lions Hall, 125 Huachuca Blvd., from 5 to 7 p.m. The cost is $4.50 for adults, $2.50 for children 5-12 and free for children 4 and younger.
Bisbee
A Gem and Mineral Show will be part of Saturday’s Bisbee Farmers Market and will include storytelling by miners. Pat Gahn will provide music for the morning to keep you entertained while you check out the rocks and gems. Market hours are from 8 a.m. to noon at Vista Park across from the Warren Ballpark.
Gary Dillard, a Bisbee native and working journalist who for the past quarter century has studied the history of the region, the borderlands and the mining industry, will speak Tuesday on the story of Bisbee as told through Evergreen Cemetery. It’s one in a series known as Lunch and Learn, held Tuesdays at the Community Y, 26 Howell Ave., from noon to 1 p.m. until late November. Cochise County Clerk of the Superior Court Denise Lundin will address the Corral of Westerners International on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Bisbee Center. Lundin will provide a glimpse into the county’s rich history as told through its court documents. The OK Corral Gunfight inquest, the 1917 Bisbee Deportation and other cases big and small come to life when seen through first-person accounts meticulously recorded by court clerks of the past. Sierra Vista
Jonathon’s Walk, in honor of Jonathon Scott VanNierop who passed away from a very rare brain tumor at the age of 10 months, will be held Saturday at Veterans’ Memorial Park at Ramada 1, from 8 to 11 a.m. Lunch will be provided for the walkers and ticket holders at the Outback Steakhouse. September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
The local chapter of Democracy For America will meet Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Blimpie’s Restaurant, 268 W. Fry Blvd. There will be a discussion of the upcoming primary elections.

A VIN-etching vehicle theft prevention program will be provided Sept. 8 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Wal-Mart parking lot by the Sierra Vista Citizens Police Academy Associates. The workers will subtly etch a vehicle identification number onto each window of a vehicle, providing a valuable clue for investigators in case the vehicle is stolen. This is free program.
