The Greater Sierra Vista Kennel Club has donated funding for a free spay-neuter program for dogs. The funds will cover only the spay/neuter surgery itself. The purpose of the program is to prevent unwanted puppies that could end up abandoned or needlessly euthanized. The Cochise County Humane Society, acting on behalf of the kennel club, is making appointments for surgeries and can be reached at 803-7385.
In preparation for the Henry F. Hauser Museum’s World War II Homefront Exhibit in November of this year, individuals who lived in the greater Sierra Vista area during World War II are invited to come to the Ethel Berger Center on Saturday, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. If you or a family member or friend were one of those who stayed on the home front during the war, professional story teller Karl Halsten and museum curator Nancy Krieski are interested in your stories. Call Krieski at 417-6980.

Join docents from the Friends of the San Pedro River on an interpretive walk along the river Saturday. Walks depart from the San Pedro House near Sierra Vista at 8 a.m. The San Pedro River features some of the richest wildlife habitat in the United States. Here you’ll find 82 species of mammals, dozens of reptiles and amphibians and nearly 350 species of birds. It is the last free flowing river in the Southwest and has been designated one of the Last Great Places by the Nature Conservancy. There is no charge for the walks; however, donations are accepted to support the docent programs. Dress appropriately for the weather, bring drinking water and use sun protection. Call 459-2555.
The Postpartum Support Group of Sierra Vista is finally here. Are you a new (or not so new) mom that is suffering? Perhaps you have more than the “baby blues.” You are not alone! The first meeting is on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Sierra Vista Public Library’s conference room. Babies are more than welcome. Call Amy at 439-9043 or send e-mail to sierravistapostpartum@yahoo.com.
