Essie Polley, 91, passed away peacefully at home in Bisbee, Ariz., surrounded by her loving family on Monday, Aug. 6, 2007.

Essie was born in Plano, Texas, on Sept. 14, 1915, to William Edgar Smith and Bessie Price Smith. At a young age, her family moved to Deming, N.M., where she was raised and attended public schools. Essie moved to Bisbee 60 years ago from New Mexico and has been a resident ever since.

Essie was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

 Essie enjoyed cooking and quilting for her family. For more than 25 years, Essie and her family and friends would hold a craft and bake sale for Christmas at her home. She enjoyed all the people and made sure she greeted everyone. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and the community.

Essie was preceded in death by her first husband, Albert Putts, in 1953; her second husband, Weslie Polley, on Sept. 3, 1996; her stepson, Alan Polley, on Feb. 3, 1999; her sister, Mary Ann Sipe, on April 1, 2007; and her brothers, Jess Smith, Wayne Smith and Ross Smith.

Survivors include her daughters, Cindy Taylor (John) of Bisbee; Adrienne Polley Reeves (Bill) of Tucson, Ariz.; stepson, Gerald Polley of Capitola, Calif.; sister, Geraldine Smith Yates (Verbon) of Ajo, Ariz.; son-in-law, Corkey Sipe of Ajo; 16 grandchildren, Larry Dingman, Lige Sipe, Sarah Taylor, Jennifer Mcbeth (Kevin), Jessie Taylor, John J. Taylor, Truly Huish (Ivan), Todd Polley (Dorale), Grayson Polley (Angie), Brek Polley, Trina Stevens (Jon), Lisa Williams (Mark), Tammy Anderson (Mark), Chris Reeves (Lisa), Craig Reeves (Sara) and Stacia Reeves (Jay); and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery in Bisbee. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Essie’s memory to the American Cancer Society.

All arrangements are being handled by Dugan Funeral Chapel.
