July 9
The Herald’s July 4 article, “Giffords: House will introduce bill with deadlines for Iraqis”, should have read, “Giffords: Democrats will introduce bill with deadlines for Iraqis”. This is more to the truth and Giffords is well aware of it. Giffords bandies the word diplomacy, the panacea word to solve all international conflicts for Democrats. All the United States has to do is apply diplomacy. With the magic wand of “political dialogue” Al Qaeda, jihadist terrorists worldwide, sectarian violence in Iraq, etc., will automatically disappear. Suicide bombers and IEDs will become a thing of the past. Rogue nations such as Iran and Syria can be easily placated. One gets the feeling Giffords and fellow Democrats yearn for the days of the Clinton Administration when diplomacy was nothing more than appeasement. Remember Clinton thought he won a promise from North Korea not to build a nuclear bomb with his gift of a nuclear reactor. With the help of that nuclear reactor, North Korea developed the nuclear bomb. Past and present statements of Giffords in the Herald lead me to believe she has a superficial grasp of international affairs. It scares me this staunch liberal serves as a member of the House Armed Services Committee.
People always tip waitresses and bartenders. They should also tip housekeepers. There are a lot of hotels in Sierra Vista. We housekeepers work very hard to keep rooms clean. We also clean worse things than food spills.

I disagree with Pat V. Powers’ letter, “Limbaugh-types drag down the discussion.” Rather than thrash government and American democratic institutions, Rush Limbaugh works hard at preserving them with the very American principles that have stood the test of time. Limbaugh demonstrates with convincing logic how liberals are eroding our American culture and institutions. What I like about Limbaugh is that he isn’t afraid to call himself a conservative, unlike liberals who now masquerade as progressives. Limbaugh’s appeal reaches out to an intelligent radio audience of over 20 million regular daily listeners. I can understand why liberals might not appreciate his keen sense of humor and logical progression of thought because to their chagrin he is heavy in political satire and scorching criticism. Liberal Democrats in Congress harbor such an intense hatred for Limbaugh that they are actually attempting to shut down conservative talk radio for which Limbaugh has become a symbol. These Democrats are willing to trample on First Amendment rights of free speech to silence the opposition. Unfortunately, they remind me of Hugo Chavez, the dictator of Venezuela, who has silenced his opposition.
I see that we have at least two Rubber Neck Liberals have what I call, Democrat Alzheimer Sickness (self-inflicted). These two (not sure if they can read or familiar with the history of “Slick Willie” Clinton) bashed President Bush for his pardon of the jail time for Scooter Libby, not the conviction. Let’s turn the clock back a few years, to Clinton’s, administration. Clinton gave a full pardon to a convicted fugitive (just to keep the record straight, this man is a very wealthy friend). Hillary’s brother was convicted for taking bribes in an effort to get pardons for a few of the scum that were buddy, buddy with the Clinton family. Should we go further? Can you remember when Clinton lied to the grand jury, they administered harsh punishment, Clinton lost his license to practice law for a couple of years. Libby was sentenced to jail time. You people make me sick, you’re hypocrites and too ignorant to know the truth. Do you know that we are still in Bosnia? We are over there protecting the Muslims so they can murder our soldiers.
I am an avid shopper of Fry’s grocery store in Sierra Vista, and I must say I am upset at the promotion that is going on in that store. The cashier gave me my receipt and said “You have been chosen for a $15 gift certificate”. Just fill out the bottom of this receipt and turn it in to our customer service desk and she will give you a certificate toward free groceries.” I proceeded to the customer desk and asked her what is this for? She said, “$15 certificate for free groceries.” Again I asked her, “What is this for?” She then said, “It is for an application for a Master Card credit card and once approved you will receive a credit card.” On the receipt it asks the questions 1. Name and full address, 2. phone number, 3. Date of Birth, 4. Social Security number. 5. Check annual income. I said, “For a lousy $15 worth of groceries you have all of my personal information that anyone could use for Identity Theft.” She had nothing to say to that. I am appalled that Fry’s is preying on the elderly and taking part in this promotion. Please anyone who shops at Fry’s be careful. I realize that to those who are on Social Security and retired that $15 worth of groceries looks good but it is not worth taking the chance that anyone can steal your identity. Once you give out this vital information on yourself there is no telling who will have access to it.
To the person who commented on July 2, complaining about five new hotels being built, and all the water they will waste. And then goes on to say, don’t blame the fort. Blame the fort. These hotels would not be built if it wasn’t for the fort. The TDYs are the ones that keep them profitable.
July 10
To all those of you who reveled in the failure of the immigration bill: What do you propose to do with the 12 million illegals who are now a working part of the fabric of America, whose children are American citizens in our schools? Do you put them all on buses with a one-way ticket to Mexico? Don’t you realize they came to escape the poverty and corruption that is Mexico? Was it right? No. Was it legal? No. But nothing was done to stop it. Most came to improve their lot in life, as I’m sure many of us would have done. Most come to do jobs that Americans don’t do. They come to toil in the fields, to clean the rooms, to make the beds, and to build houses in the scorching heat of the Arizona sun. I’m not condoning illegality, nor do I condone amnesty. But I do feel the bill that failed to pass the halls of Congress did have merit. It would secure the border, put the illegals on a path to citizenship, and make a workable guest worker program. I have not agreed much with what the president has done over the past years, but I feel he was right on the immigration issue. If this is not the answer, then what is?
This is for any people out there who are knowledgeable about the hikers who got stranded on Mt. Hood, the ones they were unable to recover because of the snow. They said something about going back in the springtime or summertime. Did that ever happen? Did they get recovered? I don’t remember hearing about any rescue team going up to find them. If anyone has any information please pass it on to the newspaper.
EDITOR’S NOTE: According to a recent Associated Press story, a search party is scheduled to search the mountain on July 21.
I have a well on my property. I live in the heart of Sierra Vista. My pump is sitting at 500 feet and I’ve had to drop my pump twice for a total of 40 feet. Somebody want to tell me that the water table is not dropping in Sierra Vista?
