Barbara Jean Brooks, 73, passed away on Sunday July 8, 2007, at the Hacienda Rehab and Care Center in Sierra Vista, Ariz.

Barbara was born in Cunningham, Texas on March 29, 1934, to Earl Hammett and Ruby Setzer Hammett. Barbara has been a resident of Bisbee since 1957, coming from New Mexico. She was raised in Texas and graduated from high school. She also attended college.


Barbara enjoyed painting, sewing and being a stay-at-home wife and mother.

She was a member of the San Jose Bible Baptist Church.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Roy Earl Hammett, Jerry Ray Hammett, James Bud Hammett and  Charles Tobb Hammett; and a sister, Midge Weatherman.

Survivors include her husband of 28 years, William Brooks of Bisbee; three sons, Ron Serr (Eva) of Chandler, Curtis Serr (Kim) of Sahuarita, and Ted Serr (Claudia) of Sierra Vista; stepson, Bill Brooks Jr., of Tucson, Ariz.; daughter, Sandra Thomas of Alabama; four brothers, Bob Hammett (Karen) of Safford, Ariz., Doyle Hammett (Gayle) of Chandler, Ricky Hammett of California and Sam Hammett (Chris) of St. Johns; six sisters, Charlotte Green (John) of California, Kay Stone (Mike) of Silver City, N.M., Brenda Blume (Neal) of Bisbee, Pam Jones (Bob) of Sierra Vista, Kathy Handy (Brad) of Ohio, and Debbie Flannery (Sean) of Italy; 13 grandchildren, Rhonda Figueroa (Frank), Jacob Serr, Randy Baldwin (Carol), William Thomas, Michelle Lopez (Eric), Curt Serr Jr., Shannon Rogusky (Mike), Ted Serr, Jr. (Jennifer), Hailee Serr, Miranda Tynes, Crystal Tynes, Dustin Tynes and Jessica Brooks; eight great-grandchildren, Daniel Serr, Bailey Baldwin, Maliyah Lopez, Alyciana Lopez, Marisa Baldwin, Lauren Baldwin, Zackary Rogusky, Bethany Serr; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Dugan Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, July 11, 2007, from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the San Jose Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery. All arrangements are being handled by Dugan Funeral Chapel.

    " My grandmother was the kindest woman I have ever known.She belongs in heaven she was always attending church,helping whoever she could.She has always been here for me and even now I can feel her eyes upon me from heaven.You will be missed and always loved. "
