This year local businesses sponsoring the celebration include: Red White and Blue Sponsors Vinny’s New York Pizza, Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative, Sierra Vista Herald and Cox Communications. Events at Domingo Paiz/

Stone Sports Complex

If you have been to the fireworks show in prior years, you know that there are parking problems and traffic congestion at the Sports Complex. So plan for it. Arrive early and stay late. Relax and enjoy the evening. Hopefully the weather will be good with no monsoon thunderstorms.

Also, remember to bring your portable radios to listen in on KTAN Talk Radio, 1420 on the AM dial for live local coverage. The Rotary Club of Sierra Vista will provide a soda and hot dog booth for you to enjoy. There will also be fun toys to buy for the kids. Proceeds from the sales help to pay for the Fourth of July Celebration.

6 p.m. — The Army Dixie Band will open the evening with some lively music and entertainment.

7 p.m. — The 36th Army Band, conducted by CW4 Aaron Graff, plans to have a fun concert with patriotic music and old favorites. Miss Arizona 2005 Audrey Sibley will sing the National Anthem. The concert will reach a crescendo around 8:15 p.m. with the playing of the “1812 Overture” complete with live cannon fire during the battle movement. This is a favorite of the crowd.

8:30 p.m. — The fireworks display will begin. Rich Besselman will be the Master of Ceremonies and provide the play-by-play color commentary. Rich has added an extra dimension to the show for several years.

The fireworks are set up and coordinated by the Rotary Club of Sierra Vista. More than 25 volunteers spend many hours on the days of the third and fourth of July to assemble and wire the charges. All of this is done under the able supervision of Pat Call. Pat says that no one has ever been seriously injured in all the years that the show has been done.

Local business sponsors pay for the fireworks. The major sponsors are listed at the beginning of this article. Be sure to thank them when you drop into their businesses. The Rotary Club of Sierra Vista appreciates the support of the community in making the Fourth of July Celebration a huge success year after year.

The fireworks will last at least 45 minutes. This is probably the biggest and best show in Arizona, bar none. It is spectacular! Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. After the show continue to relax. Let some of the traffic clear.

9:15 p.m. — After the fireworks, KRYSIS will play at the Sports Complex for about an hour. It will be another hour of good family entertainment and dancing.

We hope you have a safe, fun day with your family and friends. And remember our soldiers and your freedom and independence they help to protect.

Have a great Fourth of July!

" I can't believe any one would complain about piñatas...if you don't want to assimilate into being an American, then go back to where you came from. Santa Claus is not a part of the meaning of Christmas, what does the Easter Bunny have to do with Resurrection Day? I think kids are happy getting to break things, especially if there is a pay off like without getting into trouble. Those whom are too easily offended by things, must be mad at themselves, why else do they try to steal freedom from others? Political Correctness, a result of intolerant people. "

Jim wrote on Jul 4, 2007 6:12 AM:

" Thank you for the education about pinatas and enlightening me in my lack of education on the subject. Unfortunately not all who are here in the U.S. want to assimilate into the melting pot we call America. Not complaining, just stating fact. Happy Independence Day to all legal American citizens. I too am a vet, but only served 4 years. "

Eric Quimby wrote on Jul 3, 2007 10:57 AM:

" In response to Jim's comment, There are many awesome activities going on. All are acceptable ways of celebrating. I am the one responsible for buying the pinatas for the 4th of July festival. Growing up in the SW pinatas are used to celebrate many things. I am also a veteran who served this country for 7years. I am sorry you are not very educated. As we all know fireworks were invented in China. I challenge you to enjoy the fesivities and maybe come see our beautiful red, white, and blue pinata. Happy 4th of July! "

" Umm.... Jim, sounds to me like you are reaching for something to complain about. Why can't pinatas be a part of American tradition. Isn't that what America is? A melting pot of people and traditions. Just be grateful that you have so many festivities to choose from and have a happy fourth. "

Jim wrote on Jul 3, 2007 7:37 AM:

" Sounds like some wonderful events to celebrate 4th of July. But why the pinatas in the Huachuca City Park? Isn't that a Cinco Di Mayo thing? What do pinatas have to do with celebrating American independence from British rule? Seems American traditions and values are being eroded by those who don't want to assimilate and be Americans. Yes, celebrate your diversity - but don't force that diversity on purely American traditions and events. Christ has been taken out of Christmas - might as well take America out of American events and celebrations, eh? "

Edward Bottomley wrote on Jul 3, 2007 7:34 AM:

" I find this article totally misleading in the way that it is laid out. It does not, in anyway, do justice to the major role that the Rotary Club of Sierra Vista has in planning and organizing the July 3rd and 4th festivities. In fact anyone reading the opening paragraph and then scanning the event times could be forgivien for thinking that the events were the work of solely the Kiwanis and Just Kids. I feel that a correction needs to be published to clarify the full and proper roles of all the parties involved. "
