MESA — The Cochise County Cavaliers attended the 13th annual AZFL banquet on Saturday in Mesa, which was a packed house of 250 players, families and coaches.
Erik Shisslak was named the Arizona Football League’s Most Valuable Player.
The Cavaliers received many individual awards. Shisslak, a recent graduate of Adams State College from Colorado and a former Bisbee High School player, was recognized as the defensive MVP for the entire league third award was chosen by the league.

Shisslak was a great teammate and individual his work ethic and football skills are excellent, said owner Eric Quimby. Shisslak also received the team MVP, 1st team all-conference, and one of our hitmen awards. The hitman award is given to players thatmake game changing plays Erik made many of them.
Others receiving awards were fullback Bobby McCoy, who took all-conference second team, and also won an earthmover award for linemen. Receiver Charley Huston was named to the all-conference second team, and won a hitman award. Ryan Quimby was named Cavalier comeback player of the year and won an earthmover award. Eric Quimby, Warren Sanders and Jason Falter each won earthmover awards.
Brad Gilbertson, Rashad Sypho and Shisslak were awarded the MUZBE award, given to players that play through injuries and pain. Gilbertson also received a hitman award. Chris Gomez received a hitman award and a sports nut which is given to ultimate fans. Others receiving the sports nut award were Dee Krenzke and Brian McCullough.
