John H. Buchanan, 64, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away May 25, 2007. He was born June 22, 1942, in Oakland, Calif., to Morris and Eileen Buchanan.

He served seven years inactive duty and 22 years active duty in the U.S. Army and received numerous awards and decorations. After his retirement from the U.S. Army, John worked as a goldsmith.

John was preceded in death by his father, Morris Buchanan. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Ann; a brother, Dennis (Maureen) Buchanan of Tacoma, Wash.; a sister, Ruth Hensley of Pyramid Lake, Nev.; and a granddaughter, Jessie Wright of Sparks, Nev.

John was a member of the Optimist Club. He enjoyed model railroading, boating, fishing, traveling, riding his all-terrain vehicle and having coffee with friends.

A memorial service will be held at Jensen’s Sierra Vista Mortuary at 11:30 a.m., June 6, 2007, followed by interment at 1 p.m. at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Sierra Vista Optimist Club. Arrangements have been entrusted to Jensen’s Sierra Vista Mortuary.
