HERALD/REVIEW
DOUGLAS — Cochise County is gearing up for two full weekends of horse racing excitement, complete with betting.
“We’re the county fair horse race circuit, so we’ve been busy getting ready for our races,” said Karen Strongin, general manager of the Cochise County Fair Association. “If you’re interested in a fun weekend of thoroughbred and quarter horse racing, head to the county fairgrounds in Douglas.”
Racing begins on the weekend of April 14 and 15, and extends into the weekend of April 21 and 22. Gates open at noon on all four days, with the first race starting at 1 p.m.

“But if you want to bet on the daily double, you need to be there by 12:30,” Strongin said.
For those unfamiliar with betting jargon, the daily double involves the first two races of the day, Strongin explained. There are special bets that can be made for those two races, which are called the daily double bets.
“Each day will bring a full day of racing, with about 10 races scheduled,” she added. “There’s lots of fun, food and beverage vendors on the fairgrounds, along with beer booths and betting. Everyone should come and join the fun.”
