Central School Project is presenting its third annual young artist exhibition through March 31 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The exhibit will feature art from children 13 years old and under. The Central School Project is located at the old school on Tombstone Canyon Road at Howell Road in Old Bibsee. Call 432-4866.

The first community planning meeting for the One Book One Community 2007 project will be held at 5 p.m. today at Buena High School Library. Book clubs, neighborhood association representatives, service club representatives and others interested in helping to make this annual event successful are encouraged to attend. “Going Back to Bisbee” by Richard Shelton has been selected for this year’s theme, which is a national project to promote reading, spark discussion and strengthen civic togetherness. The Democratic Women of SouthEastern Arizona will hold a general meeting today at The Palms, 255 W. Wilcox Drive, starting at 11 a.m. The topic of this month’s program is a local history presentation by Tom Shupert, president of the Sierra Vista Historical Society. A biography of Isabella Greenway, Arizona’s first congresswoman, will be reviewed by member Kathie Crow. All interested persons are welcome. A buffet lunch will be served. TOPS AZ 90 (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) of Sierra Vista is a weight loss support group that meets Tuesday evenings at First Christian Church, located at the corner of Highway 90 and Kings Way. Cochise Chordsmen Barbershop Singers, which is Sierra Vista’s chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, meets and practices each Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in the choir room of the United Methodist Church, located at the corner of Buffalo Soldier Trail and St. Andrews Drive. The Hummingbird Stitchers Quilt Guild meets Wednesdays at 9:30 at the Sierra Vista Community United Church of Christ, which is on the Highway 90 Bypass north of Target. Birders of all levels are invited to participate in upcoming bird walks sponsored by the Friends of the San Pedro River. A walk is scheduled for Saturday and departs from the San Pedro House, 9800 E. Huachuca Audubon Society will recycle your old ink jet and laser printer cartridges, as well as old cell phones. It’s been estimated that 400 million cartridges are destined for landfills every year. Instead of trashing your cartridges and cell phones, drop them off at any Huachuca Audubon Society meeting or field trip; or at the San Pedro House, the Nature Conservancy’s Ramsey Canyon Preserve or Wild Birds Unlimited on Highway 92. San Pedro Valley Toastmasters, the newest Sierra Vista chapter of Toastmasters International, is having an Open House at 5 p.m. Friday at the Cochise College Library, Room 900. Vendor applications are now being taken for the second annual West End Block Party, which will take place from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on April 21 in the historic side of Sierra Vista, on Fry Boulevard from Garden Avenue to North Street. Events will include live entertainment, arts and crafts, a free Kiddie Land, farmers market, Tombstone Vigilantes, clowns, a street dance from 6 to 10 p.m. and much more entertainment, plus lots of food. Last year’s event was such a success that more vendors are expected to participate this year. The Caregiver Support Group will meet Monday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the conference room at Faith Presbyterian Church, 2053 E. Choctaw Drive. In a confidential group setting, with people who share the journey, a lot of problems can be helped. Anyone interested in the issues of caregiving is welcome, whether you are a family or a professional caregiver. Facilitator Frena Gray-Davidson has been an Alzheimer’s caregiver for nearly 20 years, is the author of five books on caregiving, has a small care home in Bisbee and gives caregiver workshops nationally and internationally. The Huachuca Audubon Society leads a two- to three-hour bird walk on Mondays at The Nature Conservancy’s Ramsey Canyon Preserve. Meet at the Ramsey Canyon Preserve parking lot, located at the upper end of Ramsey Canyon Road, starting at 8 a.m. in March, and 7:30 a.m. during April and August. The walk will go about a mile up through the preserve at a relaxed pace. There is some uphill walking, and sturdy shoes are recommended. The walk is free and open to the public, but standard preserve entrance fees apply. Call 803-1160.

Keep in mind that part of our country it was theirs. If we don’t want them to come illegally, why the US embassy give some temporally working visas, so they can come legally and safely to the US to do the job that we don’t want to do. I think that’s why a lot of people around the world hate Americans. "

    " I served aboard the Bisbee from August 1950 until May 1951 as engineer in the Motor Whale boat. She was quite a ship and I have many memories of her and the crew. I was surprised and pleased to see the article on the Plaque and Model Bisbee, AZ is putting up and the ship deserves to be remembered. "
