MIDLAND, Texas - The Cochise College men’s basketball team picked up its first win of the season Saturday afternoon, pounding Lubbock Christian University’s junior varsity, 126-64 in Midland, Texas.
Cochise led at the half, 68-43 and the Apaches had five players in double figures led by Kenyale Evans and Dynile Forbes with 18 apiece. Alex White scored 14 and Victor Rivera, a freshman from Puerto Rico, had 10.
“It was a feelgood win,” Cochise head coach Jerry Carrillo said. “Everyone got a chance to play.”

Following Saturday afternoon’s game, the Apaches made the nine-hour trek by bus back to Douglas. Next week they’ll repeat the trip, playing in a Thursday-through Saturday tournament at Odessa Junior College.
After that, the Apaches return home for their first home game of the year Nov. 21 vs. the Fort Huachuca Stars.
On Friday night, Cochise (1-1) held a one-point lead of Midland JC, the No. 1 ranked junior college team in the country, with seven minutes to play.
But the Apaches were not able to hold on as the Chapparals shot 42 free-throws on their way to an 82-72 win.
“We’ve got a chance to be pretty good,” Carrillo said.
