To the Editor:
Carmichael Elementary School would like to thank everyone that helped with Hands Across the Border. Our children and chaperons had a wonderful time. The small community of Huepac, Sonora, Mexico, was full of activities. The generosity of donations was a warm welcome. Each student was able to have travel needs met.
All of the Carmichael Elementary students and staff would like to express our sincere thanks to the following merchants for their wonderful generosity of donations to this educational field trip: Quality Inn, Gateway Studio Suites, General Dental, Comfort Inn and Suites, Best Western-Mission Inn, Fairfield Inn and Suites-Marriott.

Shed for center shows community’s generosity
To the Editor:
Recently, I attended an in-service at the medical clinic where I work. Two women from Huachuca City Children’s Center discussed with us the mission of the center and what it does for children of our community. After hearing from the women, I found myself moved by the sense of caring and generosity these women display as they carry out their mission of providing this much needed service. At the conclusion of the in-service, one of the attendees inquired as to whether the center accepted donations, which was acknowledged with a hearty yes. The women went on to explain the children’s center accepted donations, but what the center really needed was a storage shed due to its limited storage capabilities. Having been so moved by these women, I felt as though I needed to do something to help in this quest, and this is where my story begins.
I was fortunate enough to have been raised in a large family so this was a logical starting point for my mission of raising funds to purchase a shed for the children’s center. I began writing letters to family members and friends letting them know about the center and their mission, and asked them for donations. Next, I contacted three local businesses and solicited their support for this endeavor. Mr. Shed in Huachuca City responded.
After talking with the owner, he felt this was a very worthy cause and agreed to help and give us a 50 percent discount on the cost of the shed. Once the shed was chosen, it was built and delivered to the center without Mr. Shed receiving a single penny. The owner accepted on faith that enough money would be raised. In just over a month’s time, I was able to raise the necessary funds due to my family and friends’ generous support.
The children’s center in Huachuca City now has a storage shed, and I have a deep sense of pride knowing there are so many generous people in our community who care enough to help us help the children. To the owner of Mr. Shed: my sincere and heartfelt thank you for everything you did for us and especially for your faith in me. I would also like to thank the following people: Pat and Cotton Basinger, Debbie and Reed Schmidlin, Ty Basinger, Sherri and Russell Stout, Service Insulations Systems, Shirley and Chuck Raper, Rebecca Currier, Jean Robertson, Rosela Edmiston, Dana Hogan, Dr. Alan Kawakami, Dr. Alan Grey, Dr. Cynthia Funckes, Dr. John and Sherry Herrod, Sid Spencer, Richard and Lue Epperson, Zerilda and William Browning, Diane and Richard Collins, Misha Noel, Kitty Berg, Oscar and Lea Ward, Robert and Dusty Hudson, Bill and Rose Piper, John and Betty Barr, Russ and Pat Fischer.

Many thanks for efforts with recent bike event
To the Editor:
On Oct. 14 the Perimeter Bicycling Association of America Inc. produced and directed the 19th Cochise County Cycling Classic for the benefit of Douglas Association for Retarded Citizens. The 252-mile Cochise Classic completely encircles the entire county and has three other distance events which are circular routes within the county: 45, 92 and 157-mile events. Through this event over the past 19 years, Perimeter Bicycling has raised more than $60,000 for the Douglas Association for Retarded Citizens.
The purpose of my letter to the editor is to thank all of those involved with making this event happen. First and foremost, I wish to thank the residents of Cochise County. Without your understanding, patience, support and cooperation, our cyclists would never be able to cycle in and around your county. Our organization and Cochise Classic applauds you for sharing your roads so generously.
Secondly, thank you to Diamond Ventures for supporting Cochise Classic for the past seven years with financial and wellness support. Through their community wellness philosophy, they have adopted healthy plans in their residential communities, including wider roads for bicycling, building walking, running and hiking trails and using environmentally friendly construction methods and materials. Diamond Ventures has taken the lead in healthy living by incorporating designs that keep the individual’s health in mind.
And finally, our thanks to the city of Douglas for its continual belief in us to provide a quality, healthy and environmentally friendly event to their community and Cochise County. Thank you to all of you for helping so many people: the cyclists, the people of Douglas Association for Retarded Citizens and everyone in Cochise County who benefits from the economic impact of The Diamond Ventures Cochise County Cycling Classic.

Chorus appreciates support at concert
To the Editor:
The Sierra Vista Community Chorus would like to thank those who attended our gospel concert on Oct. 13 and 14. What a wonderful and warm responsive audience you were. You not only listened to our gospel music with your hearts, but you dug deep into your pockets to help AIDS orphans in Malawi. Because of you and others who contributed the chorus was able to collect $2,200.
This money will help the World Medical Fund USA provide placement with families and medical care for a year for two AIDS orphans. The Sierra Vista Community Chorus is proud to be a part of this big hearted community. We love to sing and we hope we have inspired you with our gospel music.
We are looking forward to seeing you at “December Delights,” our holiday concert at 7 p.m. on Dec. 8 at the Buena Performing Arts Center. This is the Sierra Vista Community Chorus’ annual gift to the community and is presented free of charge. We only ask that you contribute a non-perishable food item for the Sierra Vista Fire Department to use in holiday food baskets for those less fortunate.
Again, thank you so much for your support of the chorus and your generosity for those in need.
