After working for many years for other people, Jeana and Greg Owens finally did what many others dream of, but never actually do.
They took the plunge and set up their own business so they could become their own bosses.
“We were tired of working for other people and making them money,” said Jeana. “We also wanted to be able to spend more time with our family and to have the freedom to do what we want to do.”Greg had been driving commercial trucks for 25 years and Jeana had been a book keeper and office administrator.

The business they chose, however, was cleaning.
“I’m a clean freak,” admits Jeana. “Also, Greg’s mom used to have her own cleaning business.”
During his time delivering construction materials to developers, Greg also noticed that homes coming up for sale were not always as clean as they could be.
“I watched these guys cleaning, or rather the lack of cleaning, and I saw a need here,” Greg said.
After previously getting cold feet, the couple finally decided it was now or never.
They got a logo, printed flyers and business cards and started advertising their new business, KC Cleaning.
Before they knew it, they were starting to replace other cleaning companies and build up a steady customer base.
“We are very thorough and I think we have a good reputation,” said Jeana who, along with Greg, comes from Kansas City, hence the company name.
Fifteen months after starting KC Cleaning the couple has now branched out into what they believe is a first for Sierra Vista — power washing.
“As far as we know, no-one else here offers that service,” said Jeana. “In fact, the telephone book has had to create a new spot just for us.”
The pair is currently concentrating on the construction market, as far as the power washing goes, but the other cleaning services include residential or commercial premises, from a driveway to a superstore.
They believe the secret to their success is their attention to detail and the personal touch.
“We are not afraid to approach people,” said Greg.
“We will personally introduce ourselves and tell people about our business. When we first started we gave our flyers and cards to everyone and, over a year later, we still have people contacting us.”
Owning their own business has also given the couple the chance to become more community involved.
They sponsor their son’s soccer team and have donated their services for good causes.
“But this has been the hardest thing we have ever done,” adds Greg. “Especially physically, as it’s just the two of us. But we’re both glad we decided to do it.”
