TUCSON — Richard J. DeBernardis, Founder and Executive Director of Perimeter Bicycling Association of America, Inc., announced Bisbee artist Toni Sodersten as the Dedication Recipient of the 2006 Diamond Ventures Cochise County Cycling Classic.
A cancer survivor and Bisbee resident for more than 30 years, Toni is a nationally recognized ceramic and welded steel artist. She designed the unique sculptured trophy called “El Tour Conquistador” for Perimeter Bicycling every year since 1983, except in 2005 when she was undergoing treatment for cancer.
“The success and unique qualities of Perimeter Bicycling events is due in large part to the support and creative contributions of people like Toni Sodersten”, Richard DeBernardis said. “Because each Conquistador is hand-made, it is as unique as the person receiving it”, added DeBernardis.
The Conquistador, a 16” metal bicycle sculpture, is awarded to the first, second and third place male and female finishers, and selected other individual award recipients in all Perimeter Bicycling events.
