SIERRA VISTA — More than seven months after it began, the multi-million-dollar remodel of department store Target is nearing completion.

All structural work is due to be finished by July 14, and staff will have every shelf filled by the following week, said Michelle Breen, executive team leader of remodeling.

The project also has created 45 new jobs in Sierra Vista, as all employees taken on for the remodel will remain with the store, she added.

A new pharmacy will be up and running on July 23, followed by a grand opening of the store on a date yet to be determined, but expected at the end of the month.

The work had remained on schedule and both staff and customers had been cooperative throughout, Breen said.

“I think it’s all gone pretty well,” she said. “Most people have been really good because they realized this was a temporary situation. We’ve tried to keep up morale in the store and everyone knew there would be an end to this at some point.”

When customers walk through the doors the first major change they will notice is the addition of a Starbucks and Pizza Hut to the fast-food area to the left of the main entrance.

The store also has been painted red, new neon signs installed and the departments have been moved around, Breen said.

And the removal of the garden center may not be popular with all customers, but they will gain a larger food section, she added. The grocery section has been expanded from four to 15 aisles and will include frozen, refrigerated and dried food items. The electronics and music department has been moved and expanded, and customers can expect to see new lines throughout the new look store.

Current patio and garden furniture items still on sale will be phased out soon and replaced by a back-to-school section.

A grand opening night will be held at the end of the month and will include entertainment and VIP guests, Breen said.
